When I was a child, I always looked forward to visiting my grandma. I would burst through the front screen door, and she would welcome me, calling out, “Hello, sweetie!”. She had a crystal candy jar displayed near the front door, and I would stare at the candies through the glass, trying to guess what new and wonderful treats she had filled with. Sometimes, it was hard candy, butterscotch mints or cinnamon bones, and other times, licorice torpedos, saltwater taffy or a colourful all sorts mixture. It didn’t matter because I loved it all, and she would let me take a candy out of the jar when I arrived and another when it was time to go.

And the love of candy has been passed down through our generations. From grandparents to parents and many grandchildren. There’s something magical about seeing the twinkle in a child’s eyes when they get an Easter basket, candy in stockings on Christmas morning, a lollipop from the doctor or even candy from grandma’s candy jar.

It’s the same twinkle we can’t wait to see in our customers’ eyes, young and old, when they walk through our front doors. There’s just something magical about candy, and it’s why it’s been our dream to open an old-fashioned candy shoppe in Fernie; we look forward to watching the magic unfold.
